CAGNO, the Greater New Orleans Foundation and Cox
Communications Band Together to Prevent Youth Drug Use
CAGNO was recently awarded a grant for $2,500 by Cox Communications through
the Greater New Orleans Foundation. The grant allows CAGNO to buy
educational materials to teach local youth the dangers of
drugs, with the goal of preventing or reducing the use of drugs among
at-risk students, in turn improving their school performance, behavior and
attendance. This preventative educational program will be eight weeks long and
will be offered to students in grades 6-9. CAGNO will be presented the grant by Cox Communications at an awards ceremony
on July 11, 2007. CAGNO and Wal-Mart Foundation Team Up to Educate the
Community on the Dangers of Tobacco CAGNO received $1,300 from the Wal-Mart Foundation
specifically to purchase educational materials for smoking cessation,
tobacco prevention and stress management seminars. These materials will
allow CAGNO to reach out to the community and effectively communicate the
dangers of tobacco, how to quit smoking and in turn reduce the risk of developing cancer. PAST EVENTS Cancer
Survivor's Day On Sunday, June
3rd CAGNO celebrated its 20th Annual Cancer Survivor's Day with great
success! Sixty-seven survivors attended, our largest group of survivors ever
to attend CAGNO's Cancer Survivor's Day. Jennifer Sneed, the
5th Ward Councilwoman for Jefferson Parish, was the guest
speaker for the afternoon. Door prizes were given to those who attended,
while awards were handed out for the oldest and youngest cancer
survivors, newest diagnosis and longest survivor. Congratulations to all of
our cancer survivors!
