CAGNO is often the last resort for cancer patients who have limited income and no health insurance. Our patient services program can help cover the costs of prescription pain and treatment medications, colostomy bags and comfort items (bedpads, etc.) for cancer patients who cannot afford these necessities and/or "fall through the cracks" of government assistance. The program has helped more than 400 cancer patients in the greater New Orleans area this year. Many of these patients have exhausted their own resources and have nowhere else to turn.
Cancer patients currently residing in the parishes of Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Tammany and Tangipahoa (no equipment, living expenses or transportation assistance available in Tangipahoa Parish) also qualify to receive up to $500 in additional assistance with...

• Medical supplies or equipment (nutritional supplements)
• Medical expenses (co-pays, insurance premiums, medical and hospital bills)
• Living expenses (mortgage payments, rent, utility bills)
• Transportation (gas cards)

Additional financial help may be available for medical expenses such as prescription medications. Thanks to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, breast cancer patients are eligible for up to $500 in additional help.

Faith's Hope Foundation donates $6,500 to help one of CAGNO's families

Less than a year before Judy and Vimal Dave's Lakeview home was destroyed by Katrina, Judy was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer.  With mounting medical expenses, prolonged treatments and lost jobs, Judy and Vimal’s resources quickly ran out.  In view of the Daves’ hardships, Southern California-based Faith’s Hope Foundation will donate a check for $6,500 to the Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans (CAGNO) for Judy and Vimal Dave.

Founded in 2000 in Fullerton, Calif. (Orange County), the mission of Faith's Hope Foundation is to assist families facing homelessness and unemployment due to a loved one's long-term hospitalization or illness.  Since their inception, Faith’s Hope Foundation has worked with over 100 families, paying rent, mortgages, car payments and utilities for the struggling families.  Faith’s Hope Foundation also provides assistance in locating employment and some counseling, as well as links to local churches to provide families with additional emotional support.  For more information about Faith’ Hope Foundation visit www.faithshopefoundation.org.
